Spend the Day in Moonta

If you are short on time and you only have a day or so to visit, start at the Moonta Mines Tourist office. There are Heritage Walking Trails and the Moonta Tourist Train, both telling the story of the amazing Cornish miners.

The train tour will take you around the heritage mining area to see Ryan’s Shaft and other preserved heritage buildings. Visit the Sweet Shop on your way out where you can purchase some famous sweets.

Take a Moonta Town Tour: Stop by the Moonta Mines Museum where you can sit at a desk and imagine yourself in the classroom learning how to write, visit the miners cottage, cottage garden,  or trace your Cornish heritage at the Family History and Resource Center. .

The tourist office has extensive picnic facilities as well as accessible toilets. Water is available to fill up any water bottles.

There is a range of souvenirs available as well as any information you may need for your onward journey. There is ample car parking as well as caravan and trailer parking.

Moonta Heritage Town Tour

The Moonta Heritage Trail starts at the Town Hall and is a leisurely drive of about 16 kms. The trail passes many sites of historical interest. Simply follow the distinctive Trail Signs, Tour Drive No 38. Allow 1-2 hours to complete
